Marika M. work is part of an ongoing exploration of perception and the impermanence of reality, expressed through the creation of wall-based pieces that combine straw marquetry, metal, stone, and a granular, sand-like pictorial material she created. From this convergence emerge vibrant surfaces whose appearance resists any fixed state, shifting according to the viewing angle and lighting conditions. The reflections produced never reveal a stable image; instead, they point to an elusive reality in constant reconfiguration. Every illuminated area contains its own latent double, held in shadow—like a deferred image awaiting emergence. The work thus takes shape within this gap—between appearance and withdrawal—offering a fragmentary perception, always momentary, of an ungraspable truth. By activating material through light, I seek to redirect perception toward a sensory experience of uncertainty, where seeing no longer means grasping, but rather encountering the impermanence of what is given to be seen. This interplay between visibility and withdrawal echoes the way we apprehend reality itself: partially, and in a state of continual reassessment.
